Dr. Evie Garrett Dennis, Trailblazer Award
Every year since 1986, the business community has come together on the Friday before the national and Colorado holiday to recognize individuals, corporations and non-profit organizations in honor of their commitment to the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as evidenced by their exemplary social responsibility.
Proceeds from the luncheon will be donated to the Colorado Scholarship Coalition (CSC), now merged with Denver Urban Scholars (DUS), who select and award Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships to underserved, minority and non-traditional Colorado students. CSC/DUS partners with Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Colorado at Denver and Community College of Denver. Each of these institutions matches the CSC/DUS funds dollarfor-dollar to double the total amount of the scholarship funds awarded.
More than 80% of the students who attend college in the Denver area choose to stay in the community to pursue their careers. Providing scholarships to MLK Scholars is truly an investment in Denver’s economy and serves to diversify the future leaders of our city. By purchasing a ticket or table at the luncheon, you have a unique opportunity to contribute to our future leaders and honor the legacy of Dr. King.
Announcement:
Secretary Ken Salazar will deliver the Keynote Address at the MLK Jr. Social Responsibility luncheon.
Mr. Salazar served as the 50th United States Secretary of the Interior in the administration of President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013.  During his tenure, he helped create ten new national parks and ten new national wildlife refuges.  He oversaw the design and construction of the King Monument in Washington D.C.
A native of Alamosa, Mr. Salazar served as a United States Senator from Colorado from 2005 to 2009.  He was the Attorney General of Colorado from 1999 to 2005.  He is currently a partner at the global law firm of WilmerHale and a member of the Board of Directors of Target Corporation.
We look forward to a memorable and inspirational address from Secretary Salazar.
