Loss and Letting Go. It takes courage to manage both.
The last 30days have been a series of refreshed lessons on loss and letting go as certain people move on and new plans are made.
I have been in a flurry, many, many days of examining, parsing, revisiting and then finally resigning myself to act on what I know needs to be done. Let go! Letting go in leadership and in life takes courage. It means adopting a stance that invites uncertainty, scrutiny and questioning from those that are close, until you finally allow rest in the courage of your decisions.
As I write CEO thoughts this month, I do so on the heels of booking a trip to Southern California for a funeral. My Mom’s best friend. A vibrant, witty, tell it like it is matriarch whose final request was to be buried next to my Mom and Dad. As I start to mourn and grieve, I know that release will be required and letting go will be necessary.
I start sitting in the eventuality of hurt, emotional rubble, and pain to come, contemplating the courage I will need in the weeks and months ahead to Let Go.
Courage calls for the deepest parts of us to forge forward, push through and keep our chins up.
Courage pushes us to make peace, affirm ourselves, and take BIG deep diaphragm breaths each day as we usher in the needed release.
Finally, courage reminds us that we have been here before, we will be here again, and that there are caring folks along the way to lean on. All while knowing, ultimately, we have what it takes inside to continue.
So, breathe, release, and pull that courage card that you need to let go and move ahead.
